EU Regional Qualifiers Week 8 - Recap

by HiRez ESports | Jun 30, 2014
In light of recent weeks I think we have all grown attached to the roller-coaster ride that is the European Smite competitive scene.  With 2 weeks to go in our Smite World Cup Regional Qualifiers where we will be taking the top 4 teams and bringing them to our Regional LAN, the competition could not be closer.  With a new champion almost every week we can expect the upcoming weeks to be full of close match-ups and giant upsets.  Lets see what happened in our week 8 EU qualifiers.

Team SoloMid   Exposed Secrets     SK Gaming
          1st                             2nd                              3rd

First we'll recognize this weeks champions, Team SoloMid, beating out last weeks champions SK Gaming in the Semifinals and then on to beat Exposed Secrets with a 2-0 sweep in the Grand Finals.  Team Solomid has been in somewhat of a "rut" since week 4 not getting higher than 3rd place until this week.  This win is crucial for TSM as it helps solidify their spot in the top 4, no only 15pts behind top seed Cloud 9.  TSM's solo laner, Gamehunter with dominating performances as well as adc, Smek, helped secure their victories here in week 8.

Taking a very honorable 2nd place this week was Exposed Secrets, a team that, in classic EU fashion, hasn't made it past the quarterfinals the entire qualifier and all of a sudden finds themselves in the Grand Finals against one of the scenes top teams.  Taking the second place points away from our top three (Cloud 9/TSM/Team Coast Blue) aside from putting themselves in a better position but puts now even the 3rd spot in contention going into these final weeks.  With SK Gaming winning the bronze match over IIIII, they are now dead even in our rankings.  SK and IIIII now fall only 8pts behind 4th seed Agilitas.  IIIII beat Agilitas this week in the Quarterfinals, and we can expect to see soem very close match-ups these final 2 weeks.
