It's that time again! Power rankings are come out every Friday as we give our judges the time to evaluate the previous week of competition as well as their teams individual potential in order to give them the rank that we feel is necessary. As mentioned in the last 2 power ranking posts, we judge teams on the following criteria:
- Overall tournament standings/results (Current standings in qualifiers)
- Last weeks performance (Example: Higher ranked team barely beating a lower ranked team would give little to no points vs lower ranked team crushing a higher ranked team would give a lot of points)
- Personal opinion on each team (How you feel the team has been performing)
- Potential future performance (Based on your knowledge of the team and past performances, rank a team on how you think they will continue in the qualifiers)
Each judge is given 50 points to divvy out between each team for both the North American and European regions. By Thursday night, the forms must be sent in completely and from there, we evaluate each judgement and average it out in order to get the rankings you are about to see for each region.
Rank 1 - COGnitive Gaming
Well, well, well. Look what we have here. COGnitive Gaming coming in on the top for the first time this season. We all know about #KingCOG from the "Path to $100K" as they came in 1st place each and every week of competition. It was such a dominate performance. This season, however, it has been a slow start. First week coming in 3rd place. Second week coming in 2nd. And continueing the upward trend, COG was able to take 1st place on the 3rd week. The questions now lies: Will they keep the #1 spot? Most of the judges seem to think so - which is why we will keep COGnitive Gaming as Rank 1
Rank 2 - Team Dignitas
Team Dignitas, even though they came in 2nd last week, is still a very strong team. And we would not be surprised at all if they take down COGnitive Gaming in the Grand Finals. However, they did not have the best week last week. Even in the Semi-finals, they struggled against The Game Changers. It looked like TGC's game throughout most of it, but the positive side of Team Dignitas, they never give up and have an unbelievable late game presence. Their games against COGnitive Gaming were a little different. Especially in the first game where MlcSt3alth took charge with Poseidon, Team Dignitas couldn't maintain their 1st place streak. But what really matters is the overall tournament points where DiG still holds the top spot. #Dig4Dig?
Rank 3 - The Game Changers
As one of our judges put it "They're knocking on the top 2's door finally". And they've certainly showed this throughout the tournament series. They've held onto the #4 spot for the first two weekends, but after a lot of practice and consistence game performances, taking down SNIPE in the consolation match is exactly what they deserve. But do they have what it takes to get into the Top 2? Most of us don't believe so as we believe - at least for the time being. But 3 to 4 weeks down there road? It's certainly a possibility. And we look forward to the day we see a different top 2 team in the North American region. Rank 4
- SNIPE Rank 5
- Down To Frag Rank 6
- Five Angry Men Rank 7
- Critasaurus Rank 8
- Humdrum Rank 9
- Torch Rank 10
- Lispcrew Europe
Rank 1 - Team SoloMid
It was a hard fought grand final for Team SoloMid, but in the end, they came out on top. Until the finals, they were had an easy ride as they took down their opponents on the way pretty convincingly. Worth Gaming, on the other hand, really put TSM to the test. Game 2 was the first time we've seen a team who was a game down come back to force a Game 3. And let us tell you, if you didn't seen Game 2, it was a sight to see. Not only did they force the surrender our of TSM early in the game, they picked ARES. Never, ever have we seen such a pick in the grand finals - especially in the game that is do or die. With all of that said, Team SoloMid earned their spot as the #1 team in this past weekends tournament, the #1 point holder in the entire tournament series and the #1 rank spot in the Team Rankings.
Rank 2 - Cloud 9 HyperX
Rought week for our friend on Cloud 9 HyperX. But we don't think its a trend we'll see with this team. We look at it as more of a fluke. Why? Well, it wasn't the game against Worth Gaming that really makes us have this train of thought. It's the match against I I I I I. We feel that Cloud 9 is the stronger team between these two and that it was just an off week for them to lose 2 games against 2 different teams straight in a tournament. Though it does open our eyes a bit. Are these teams new, less veteran teams the new top teams in the European region? Did cloud 9 let the defeat against Worth Gaming get to them which led to the lose in the consolation match? There's many questions we can ask, but only the weeks ahead of us will tell. What do you think?
Rank 3 - I I I I I
This may be the biggest shock in all of the power rankings thus far. No, not the fact that I I I I I is in the top 3 again. It's the fact that we do not highlight Worth Gaming after their performance last weekend. Why? Well, all the judges seem to agree that I I I I I is more consistent and will maintain this spot. And eventually move up in the future weeks. Worth Gaming is a team we see that will cause an upset here and there, but at the end of the season, we think they'll be a close 4. Led by Santotry, him and his team has managed to take down Cloud 9 - like Worth Gaming did. But when Worth Gaming and I I I I I last met, I I I I I took the victory home. Questions still lie, however, such as did Worth Gaming just become that good in a week or 2's time? We have our way of thinking and we're sure others have another way. This is what makes the European region such a blast to watch on Sunday afternoons. From the god picks to the weekly upset, there's always something exciting going on. Rank 4
