Week 3 Regional Qualifier Predictions

by HiRez ESports | May 17, 2014

It was another crazy week of competition for both North American and Europe. Team SoloMid has tied Cloud 9 HyperX in the standings for 1st place and COGnitive Gaming found themselves back into the Grand Finals. Will SNIPE make it to the Grand Finals? Will the Game Changers be the new 2nd place finisher? And will I I I I I get back into the top 3? Here's what we think:

Current Standings:

Predicitons:

North America

Team Dignitas – They continue to remain atop the land of North America. After a decisive run in last week’s tournament Team Dignitas is poised to remain the number one seed. The members have shown why they’re a fan favorite with their impeccable game play. Expect Team Dignitas to continue doing very well in the qualifier series.

Cognitive Gaming -  From 3rd to 2nd place Cognitive came back with fury against Snipe last week. They beat Snipe in the semi finals showing they can learn from their past mistakes. Cognitive performs very well in the current meta and Jeff Hindla is only going to get more comfortable with his new team. It will be interesting to see if they can stand out from Snipe this week.

Snipe – If anyone wants revenge for last week it’s Snipe. They were bumped from the semi finals by Cognitive and are now tied for 2nd seed with them. Snipe will need to perform consistently in order to take down Cognitive Gaming. They should set their sights on claiming a firm hold on 2nd place before taking on Team Dignitas.

Europe

Team SoloMid - These guys were on fire last week. If that passion for MVP and winning carries over into this week’s tournament I see no reason why TSM can’t claim the top seed instead of sharing it with Cloud 9. Consistent winning against Cloud 9 is what TSM needs to master this season to prove they are the top European team.

Cloud 9 HyperX - Trading wins with TSM is something Cloud 9 is very familiar with. Cloud 9 is tied for top seed in Europe. A lose to TSM this week will put them in a very solid second place above IIIII. Will Cloud9 let TSM pull away into first place or will they continue trading wins?

I I I I I - The dark horse continues to ride. After an upsetting lose to BloodyTech EU, IIII has to perform this week to remain in the top 3. Bring the hard work and passion from last week’s lose and use it to fuel the winning of this week’s tournament. Forget about beating Cloud 9 and TSM, claim the 3rd place spot and then prepare to the next step.

Final Verdict

The qualifier series looks to be an incredibly exciting time for both competitive teams and Smite fans. As the competitive scene grows and teams mature we will see more diverse standings. In the off season we saw a plethora of roster changes, newly formed teams, and new strategies from the banning system. This qualifying season is shaping up to be the most exciting tournament series in Smite history.
