To start off this weeks official recap, let us begin talking about the huge news recently announced.
On November 11, 2013, Hi-Rez Studios announced that SMITE eSports will be traveling across the world to Shanghai, China with the winners of Gamescom 2013 and Pax Prime 2013 to compete at the biggest game carnival called Tencent Games Carnival. These two strong teams, Cognitive Gaming EU and Team Dignitas, will be playing multiple gametypes to show the Chinese what SMITE is all about. This is a huge opportunity for both the studio and its community. Good luck to both teams and we look forward to hearing how the Chinese respond to this particular event.
Now lets get back to why were here - Week 28. In Norther America, we saw a lot of usual matchup's towards the finals such as Dignitas vs Denial eSports and Reason Gaming vs Denial eSports. With the absence of Cognitive Gaming this week in the North American tournament, we saw the other top 5 teams in the scene duke it out in the semi finals, bronze match and the finals.
In the end, we saw Team Dignitas take 1st place which allowed them to secure the #1 spot on the NA team rankings. Denial eSports took 2nd place which helped them get into the 400 point range - which is where the #2 and #3 spots are currently sitting. Reason Gaming showed a performance in the consolation match as they beat Denial eSports to take 3rd place and help them stay in the top 5 of the team rankings.
These next few weeks are going to get really interesting as there are a couple of roster changes being planned and the team rankings start to get closer and closer. We look forward to see where everyone ends up at the end of the 2013 year.
The European scene finally saw a new 1st place winner this past weekend! The matchup between Mortality EU and SK Gaming has been a popular in the past, but usually it's SK Gaming coming out on top. Not this time, though. Mortality EU came back with a vengeance beating SK Gaming 2 games to 3. As they took 1st place and COGnitive Gaming EU took 4th place this past week, Mortality gets a bigger lead in 2nd place, but SK Gaming still holds strong as they creep into the 600 point range - higher than any team currently in the tournament series.
And that'll do it for this the Week 28 recap. We want to take a brief moment to thank all of the teams for participating in the tournament series. And all of our viewers throughout the past 28 weeks. We plan on many more events - offline and online, so be sure you stay tuned to esports.smitegame.com and express any comments you may have about the esports scene to eSports@HiRezStudios.com
